We have turned away from many of our highly nutritious traditional foods and replaced them with man-made processed foods. Processed foods are typically very high in high fructose corn syrup which when consumed in large amounts can cause metabolic damage leading into other health problems.

There are also many chemicals added to foods for texture, color, preservatives and added flavors. Many of them are very high in calories while low in nutrients.

How is this healthy? How did we get here and where did we go wrong ?

Our health started its decline more and more once we as a collective began buying man made processed foods.

Our modern day diet is the potential cause for many health issues such as cardiovascular problems, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease.

According to the Center for Disease Control more than ⅓ of the population is pre diabetic. This segment of our population is very close to being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Obesity is plaguing our society.

So now let’s discuss why?

Remember when low fat diets were the craze? Many food processing companies actually took fat out of our food. Once the food industry began processing the natural fat out of many foods that is when our body naturally feels the desire to want fats. We were left with a craving for natural fats that sugar replaced. Sugar is very cheap and makes foods highly palatable. It is also a great preservative. Your amazing body is continually monitoring the amount of glucose (sugar) it has in the bloodstream to maintain a balance. Did you know that there are over 50 different names for sugar?

What about carbohydrates? Modern carbohydrates are very dangerous. The problem with the highly processed carbohydrates we have access to today is that many of them come packaged with tons of sugar and vegetable oils.This forces the body to constantly be balancing blood sugar.

We are constantly experiencing extreme peaks and valleys with our blood sugar. Every day our bodies deal with being in an unnatural state. This compiled with so many other toxins that are in our processed food such as food coloring, and processed carbohydrates creates a body loaded with artificial ingredients.

Let’s discuss our love for our outrageous over consumption of caffeine, sodas, energy drinks and that black brew we all call coffee.

Because of our modern day diet, many of us are deficient in minerals and vitamins and are never fully nourished. Our bodies keep sending hunger signal in hopes that we will consume the right nutrients. Leading us to consume too many calories, filled with saturated fat, trans fats, added sugars/ too much sodium and too little fiber, vitamin D, calcium and potassium.

We are innately designed to seek vitamins, minerals and proper amino acids. Our bodies crave these foods that we need in order to operate optimally.

Next time you go to the grocery store start looking at the ingredients in some of the foods that we’re buying.

Does an empty nutritious food densely calorie rich, lack in micronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, or amino acids, and fiber sound healthy to you?

The food engineers made processed foods taste much better than anything found in nature. Thus tricking our endorphins. Causing many of our bodies to be inflamed. Too many of us over consume processed foods.

Inflammation can also come from vegetable oils. These vegetable oils are much higher in the inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids, which when consumed excessively, can create or exacerbate inflammatory problems in the body.

Studies show frequent consumption throws off the balance of Omega-6 and Omega-3 in the cells which leads to a number of problems and dysfunction.

I am speaking about highly processed vegetable oils such as soybean, canola, sunflower, corn and safflower. Let me be clear; coconut, sesame, and olive oils are all wonderful and highly nutritious.

What about our farm animals? Animals are fed a highly inflammatory unnatural diet loaded with soy, corn and grains which they are not designed to consume. Many develop health complications that would not be present when raised if grass fed. They are also given antibiotics used as a preventative measure against sickness. They are also given hormones to promote rapid growth in a shorter span of time.

In short our health in modern times is plummeting at an alarming rate.
